MARY JANE HEGGYSSEY WADLEY  - Novemeber 10, 1952 - Jaunary 16, 2024

Mary Jane Hegyessy Wadley was born in Houston, TX on Nov. 10, 1952 to Harold and Phyllis Schaffer Hegyessy.  The child of a miliary family she lived in many places throughout her youth, including Germany, California, Florida, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.

In high school she discovered a love of theater and sewing.  While attending BYU, she initially studied acting, but eventually changed her major to costume design.  She participated in many productions throughout her time as a student at BYU, including a European USO tour of Fiddler on the Roof.  

Mary Jane served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in London, England.  

After returning home is met her husband Sterlind in a Single Adult Ward.  They were married on April 9, 1982 in the Salt Lake Temple.  There first two years were spent in the Caribbean lobster farming, and running a dive business on the islands of Anguilia and St. Maarten.

They had two children, Clinton born in 1985 and Katy Born in 1987 and moved their family to Pleasant Grove.  Staying home with her children, she still created many costumes for BYU dancers and theater producations. She retired from produciton design and BYU in 2018.

In September of 2023, she was diagnosed with cancer.  She still chose to play the role of Elizabeth in Savior of the World and completed her final show of the 2023 season.

She lost her beloved spouse, Sterling suddenly from COVID-19, in February 2021.

Mary Jane is survived by her two children and 6 grandchildren, she is preceded in death by her spouse, Sterling; her parents and in-laws, her brother-in-law, Douglas Wadley and John Nichols, and her brother Bill Hegyessy.

Funeral will be held Thursday, Jan 25, 2024 in American Ford.

Lorraine Child (Misener)

Mary Jane and I were in the musical producation our Senior Year!  Such a talented, wonderful person.  It was fun to see how she shared her gifts all her life.
